East Side Gallery + Views of Neukölln - (Week 46 - Apr 23)

Okay funny story, we were out trying to find this lady, and on the way made a friend and got a contact. I was just in such a good mood, the sun was shining, life is good! On the way back home, I was doing a little dance down the sidewalk singing some MoTab song and I look to my left and this 90+ year old lady was hanging out her window dancing along with me! It was hilarious, and she was just beaming with joy! Naturally we go over and talk to her, and she said the little dance made her day! Its the little things. Sister Hansen captured this glamour shot moments before I met my lovely friend.
 Visiting East Side Gallery today!
More of the wall! This was AMAZING. I can't even put into words
the feeling of walking next to the wall.

 More of the wall!
I'd never dare push this button!

Just not the WEED flavored ones! Crazy, huh?

Don't Get Distracted by Seemingly Good Things - Apr 23

You two are so funny! That voice memo just made me crack up so much, I had to keep pausing it so I could spread the joy out a little longer! (And to catch my breath in between laughing!) Don't worry it didn't make me trunky at all, you can send as many of those voice recordings as you want ;)

Your Utah trip looks like loads of fun! It's good to see the boys smiling faces again, I miss them like crazy! Now that you have this cool technology all figured out, you should do a voice recording with all of them! I just love hearing everyone's voice, it's so much better than just writing emails! You guys haven't changed one bit and now I understand where I get all of my randomness! haha oh I love my family. Enjoy the time together out there!

What did you do with the cat while you were gone? And when are you going to start watching the little baby Nash? I bet you are pretty excited about that!

It was a good week. Despite a lot of opposition, we kept pressing forward. We had solid lessons with each of our three progressing investigator ladies and they went okay! We also had quite a few handoff lessons because the rules changed and none of the missionaries teach English speaking people anymore except for the 2 sets of English missionaries. In the long run, its a very good thing. For now, its a little hectic because of all the handoffs and some sad missionaries. 3 English investigators in the zone just got put on baptismal date right before this change, and now they aren't even going to be their missionaries for the baptism. They'll still go and numbers don't matter or whose baptism it is, but it's hard anyway. Alles gut, we are going strong and have a good plan to find some more people this transfer and really see some success! Our 2 big goals are gaining the trust and relationship with the members and also a basic find, teach, baptize approach. Elder Rasband counseled us to not get distracted from seemingly good things but that don't necessarily support our missionary purpose. So we are trying to go back to the basics and I think we will see miracles! The transfer goes until June 6th I think, and I just have this awesome good feeling that we will have a baptism!

No lie, this week was good and miracle filled, but pretty hard. I just felt exhausted beyond anything I've ever felt, and that I was facing my own personal spiritual opposition, and then on top of that, the world just seemed to beat on us! I swear everyone's favorite word is no! Like c'mon, I could be handing out $100 bills to everyone and they would just flat out say no! It's okay, I know this will strengthen my testimony but goodness, have a heart people! We are here to help you! Guess I know a bit of how Jesus, the apostles and pretty much everyone in old and modern scripture feel :) #Ifeelyoubros

Saturday was actually super super cool. We had the day planned, but at about 1, we got a text from a contact and she wanted to meet with us that day! Of course we would! We shifted things, called the English sisters (because now we would have to hand this investigator off) and met up in about 2 hours! It was really funny, because Sister Hansen and I have never met her, the sisters before us found her! All we had to go off of to find her was her whatsapp profile picture! By some miracle, we were walking laps around this place trying to find her, then we saw the English sisters and waved at them, and this girl in between waved back at us! It was her! It was so funny. We went to a cafe and just started talking like crazy. Mom, it was the coolest lesson I've ever had! She's Turkish and Muslim, but speaks perfect English. She's actually just a bit older than us and super hip, works for Facebook. Sister Wood and I, studying Arabic, have learned a ton about the muslim religion and its interesting how similar it actually is (minus a few major details like they don't believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God). But we were able to understand her and ask questions, and she asked a ton about christianity and we were able to open up our minds so much and just have the best conversation! She really loved posing the question why, and that's exactly what we help people do! We invite them to search for truth! She is amazing and I hope she progresses a lot.

Makenzie Huff is engaged?! I didnt even know she had a boyfriend! I wonder if they'll get married pretty quick or if I'll be home?! I want to go!!

Pday was super super cool day! We met up with one of the members in our ward, Inga (she always covers up the last 3 letters of my name tag and thinks its so funny! She's hilarious) and went on an adventure! We saw the East Side Gallery, which is the long strip of the Berlin wall tha'ts still up. When I saw it for the first time, it totally gave me chills. The artistry is beautiful, but you look at the top and see how the wall actually used to look and it makes it all so real. This war really split a city in half! I took tons of pictures, which I really hope you like! Definitely the most I've ever sent, so hopefully that makes up for a shorter letter possibly, we are doing family home evening a little early today, so I'll have to cut emailing short! We had a picnic outside with our ward mission leader and his family, cutest family and kiddos ever! But yes, pday1 wE HAD SOOOO much fun with Inga I love her! I told her she needs to marry Tanner, they are both so cool. She's going out to Utah in September so I think we can arrange something. She served on temple square! She says his hair is too long though....ö I agree... Love him! But the hair has to go...... But anyway, we walked around for a bit, and we went to the Ritter Sport factory and I made my own little creation! Roasted coconut, rasberries and strawberries in milk chocolate! I'll test it out later this week and let you know if its good! Oh warning on the pictures - I took a picture of the new chocolate they came out with: weed. Man this city is the city of sin lol. We also went to H&M and I got the cute skirt I saw last week! I did your rule, and I wanted it 3 times! It's light, tan and SO cute! I'm so excited, best purchase in awhile. Who am turning into that I'm buying clothes?!? Well, I guess I need some new ones. Pencil skirts aren't ideal in summer and I'm also trying to be a good example and dressing really modest because sisters are having problems with wearing things too tight. Overall, super fun pday, probably the most fun one I've had in awhile!

Funny story: I was helping out with transfers in the train station last Wednesday, and the finishing missionaries came through to get to Freiberg. This one elder, I'd actually never really met him before I've just talked to him on the phone about his sisters after exchanges, but it was so funny oh my goodness. He goes to put on his backpack/luggage thing, and attached to the side is a loaf of bakery bread!! I laughed waayyy too hard, but it was so funny. I thought he was legit taking it home for his family, but it was just a snack for the train ride down! I had to get a picture of it, probably favorite picture I took this week hahahahha. I'll probably do the same thing, that was brilliant.

I love you a million walks along the East Side Gallery! I hope we can do that together someday, its amazing. Oh and a million voice recordings from you guys, my face hurts from smiling and laughing!!!

Love, Macey

I Just Feel Like Time is Whipping Right Past Me - (April 16)

I KNOW, RIGHT?!??! [On Mom thinking it's pretty cool that she got to meet Elder Rasband]

It was a very crazy week, mom! I was so, so tired yesterday, I barely survived to the end of the night haha! We got transfer calls and Sister Hansen and I are staying together for another transfer! Woo hoo!! I’m so pumped, I love her, we work well and hard, and I definitely don’t know the area well enough to take over in just 4 weeks! It just worked out that way with the year that sometimes we have weird week transfers. Like this one was 4, and now this next one is 7! Those always feel a bit long, but we are really excited and going to make some good progress with the area in that amount of time. I just know we are going to have a baptism. So many of our investigators are ready, they just need to commit.

Okay, didn’t you meet Elder L. Tom Perry when he came to our stake a few years ago? [Yes, I did meet him! – MOM] I remember getting to meet him! I really met Elder Rasband this time! It was a really good experience, and I felt the love he sent us from President Nelson. He was very sure to say that President Nelson wanted us to know that he sends his love, and to say, "thank you". I really love how kind and compassionate they are!

Good to know that you got my voice message! Sometimes I don’t know if it will go through. Yeah, that has actually changed my mission. [Advice given from the Mission President that she doesn’t have to be perfectly fine and happy all the time if she’s not. She is a very happy person, in general, though! – MOM]  When I’m with sisters especially, they’ve commented a lot on how honest I am and easy to talk to and that they really trust me. I don’t feel like I’m anything special at all, but I do feel that being real and down to earth doesn’t make the sisters feel like they are being judged or that they need to be perfectly fine all the time. I’ve found a lot of sisters just need someone to talk out their situation sometimes! I make sure to always try to pray for the discernment to know what questions to ask and how I can help them. I really love being an STL. It’s a lot of work, but I just love these sisters with my whole heart. They willingly chose to do these hard things and serve, and they are trying their best and it’s just amazing. I have found that I really dislike disobedience. I was not always the most perfect missionary, but over time and especially now, I really try to be 100% obedient and I completely see the blessings in it, and actually how much fun you can have within them! Like, then you don’t worry about feeling guilty or getting in trouble, it’s just good light-hearted fun! I’m trying to help my sisters see that too. We did a training this transfer on modesty and clothing standards, and I learned a lot from it! I introduced it as being ambassadors of the Lord, as the website says, and how powerful our appearance is to others. I just know that they can see something different in us, especially when we are professionally put together!

I actually went shopping today! Yes, me, Sister Ingalls willing spent hours looking for deals and cute modest clothes! After a millennium and a half, I found a cute skirt for $12 and a cute shirt, also $12! I was pretty proud of the purchases, I’ll make sure to get caught in a picture in them this week! I know, you are probably laying on the ground in shock right now. Don't worry, it’s just as painful now as it was then, I guess my whining just tends to stay on the inside now ;)

Love the April calendar! Dang I went to a lot of proms haha. Are you still driving the 300c? What do you think that I should do when I get back? Should I just try going without a car? I like not having to drive now, but I guess I’m in Europe! I do love biking too! Oh oh, I’ll get a scooter!!

THOSE SNOW PICTURES ARE CRAZY!!!! This winter was a pretty heavy one! I feel like the only one I’m not there for, what is this?! Oh, I love a good winter wonderland, but I can’t help but think of those poor missionaries. Actually, they are probably stuck at home and get to enjoy some District video and good reading. Probably living it up all snuggled up in blankets! It is cold outside? It reminds me of the Little House on the Prairie book where they get an April snow storm! You have no idea how much I get that out here. Whenever I meet a new German, they are like, "Ahhhh, Unser kleine Farm?!" aka Little House. Oh, my goodness it’s funny but after like 50275 times, yeah I expect it before they even ask. I’m pretty much famous, though.

I feel you on the scripture habit thing. Of course, I read my scriptures every morning, but lately I felt like I wasn’t getting much out of it. I decided to finally change something. I think the key to getting back to scripture reading is having a reason. WHY are you studying? Are you reading just to check it off for the day, or are you trying to learn something? Those two will yield very different spiritual results. I would really encourage you to read the Book of Mormon with a question or something specifically you are looking for. For example, "Where can I find peace?" or "How can I find strength in Jesus Christ?" or "How do I continue to build my home even though my kids are out of the house?" Totally ask God! Read it for Conner, read it for Sara and Jeff, read it to answer your innermost questions! Mom, I promise you that you’ll find answers in it! It shocks me all the time when I read something that just answers my questions perfectly. I know that when we show God we are searching for those answers, he will give them to us through the spirit. Plus, the scriptures can be totally cool! I love the war chapters, of course they are spiritual, but they are dang funny too! (Like serious, it’s like a romcom!) I like how you said that God wants to communicate with us, but it’s like waiting for a text with your phone turned off, we gotta open our communication! Love it! Love you!

That was really cool to hear your voice on the video with the cat, that was cute and made my day :)

To answer your answer to my question, I just feel like the time is whipping right past me and I’m not even getting a chance to do everything I want to! It’s exciting to think about seeing my family again, but I don’t want anything to distract me and I have quite a while to focus still! Can you believe I’m now starting my 8th transfer, and only have 4 more left after this next one..?!

Hahah you pronounce Neukölln "Noii - koulln". Oi is like an "ahoi matey!" sound, you get what I mean? Haha I’m sure you are doing it right. Then again, Sister Rasband tried to greet us in German and it was so funny. It’s amazing how much my pronunciation has developed that I think Americans sound super silly pronouncing German things. I still can’t do the German “r” roll though.. sigh... Some dreams are just outta reach.

Thanks for telling me about Dallin. I’ll be sure to send him something. I hope all of the stress passes after graduation! I can already think of something to share with him, inspiration hopefully!

All of the meetings this week were really good, I loved getting so uplifted! It was a little scary to give my first workshop at a zone conference! Plus, that day, I was really not feeling good and had a super bad headache, and President sat in on our workshop the first hour!! It was nerve wracking, but we pulled through! We taught about wagenburgs and surrounding our investigators with good influences to counter the bad things that seem to try to take them away. We did an object lesson where the wagenburg protected the investigator and the adversaries got to throw paper balls at them! It was pretty funny, and I think it overall went really well!

I had some embarrassing moments this week but it’s all good, they made really good memories!! hahah my feet were SOAKED for hours after spilling that water whoops.

Have so, so much  fun in Utah this next week! Hopefully it’s all sunshiney and you can have a good time with the boys! I love them so much, give them all great big hugs for me. Do you have anything specific planned? You’ll have to tell me all about it next week! Send videos of you and the boys, I love those! Or a voice recording! You just do it on the notes app and send in through email! :D

Oh, I wanted to ask you and Dad one more thing: I want your advice on what I should pursue in studying in the future. Sister Hansen did this and got really good feedback. As of now, I’m a finance student. I liked dietetics, but I guess I just gave up after a class that wasn’t my favorite. So what President F counsels is that we ask our family what our strengths are. Could you and Dad do that separately this week and send me a list of my strengths next week? Then we use those and see how that could be a force for good in my university studies and on into the future! Maybe you could even get some ideas from grandma and grandpa and the other family on what I would be good at? I guess that’s a bit of a project, but it’d be so helpful!

I love you a million conferences with Elder Rasband!
Love, Sister Macey Ingalls

Almost the Whole Mission in a Picture! (I'm second row!) Apr 16

Hamburg and Neumünster Zones - Zone Conference

Embarassing Moments Make the Best Memories - April 16 (Group Email)

I predicted right last week, and this week was insane! #survived
Probably the most scenic picture I took this week hahah
1. Because of the 4 week transfer, zone conference included HALF of the mission! It was good to see friends and learn together. Sister Hansen and I did a workshop that involved throwing lots of paper and I think it went pretty well!

2. Sister Wood (a fellow Arabic learner!) came to Neukölln with me for the day and we worked HARD! Our goal was to act on every prompting and talk as much Arabic as we could! Well, I felt we should talk to this flower shop lady, so I was waiting a minute while she talked to a customer and I totally DUMPED water from a whole row of flower pots all over me! I was SOAKED! 😂 You know you're a missionary when your first thought is, "yes, this is the perfect opportunity to start a conversation!" The lady was awesome, we actually understood some of her Arabic, and she said she wanted to meet with us! AND she gave us free flowers! I'd dump water on myself all over again for that, is was a good, good day.
I forgot my nametag today so we were both Sister Hansen 😂
3. Our special conference with Elder Rasband was AMAZING! He answered questions and counseled us how to be bold missionaries, focused on our purpose and not simply taking no for an answer! I did learn a personal lesson too.. He was asking rhetorical questions and we were raising our hands, but I guess the next one was not, and he decides to call on me, sitting in the front row. I was SO shocked I couldn't say anything! With mouth wide open I stammered "uhh I don't know!" Embarrassing.. But its all good, because the European Area Presidents wife asked our mission presidents wife, Sister Fingerle, to tell me its okay, she would've done the same thing too...
I SAW SISTER GRISHAM AGAIN!!😭😭😭😍😍😍
4. Elder Rasband also did a conference for the Berlin stake (seriously how lucky are we?!) and 4 of our friends came, including Killian! He sat by another investigator, and at the end, they both decided they wanted to be BAPTIZED! IN 2 WEEKS! Sister Fingerle (love that woman) found out and parted the red sea right up to Elder Rasband and they told him they wanted to be baptized! He put his arms around them and said, "That's great boys, do it for the right reasons!" They are pumped, we are pumped! Unfortunately, we are giving Killian to the Elders to be taught, but that doesn't dim the excitement of his choice one bit! YAY!

Sis De Soto on exchanges!💕
5. Sabrina came too, and toward the end of the meeting, I just felt like she needed to meet elder Rasband. I prayed and prayed hard, and felt reassured she'd shake his hand. At the end, they announced that he only had time to shake the kids hands. I was disappointed for about .04 seconds, then I remembered that less than 24 hours before, Elder Rasband had just counseled us to not take a no so easily! I grabbed Sabrina by the hand and made our way through the crowd and stationed us right in the aisle he'd walk down. As he passed, I said, "Elder Rasband! This is Sabrina! She's searching for the truth!!" He turned around, shook her hand and asked her if she felt the Spirit in the meeting! It was so cool, I just know she will find it soon!

Sorry this is a novel already, Be bold and kind and happy this week!

Funny Little Convos with Mom (April)

MOM: I was scrolling on Facebook this morning and this popped up and made me think about you! The cherry on the top is who it is quoted from! And I thought to myself “How perfect?”
MACEY: I love this and made it my background btw, thanks for sending it!

MOM: You should do your hair like this again!! Man, I miss your long, shiny beautiful locks! And how yummy it always smelled!! And look at the sweet cheek!! I just want to give it a great big smooch!!!! I sure love my girl!!!
MACEY: I miss my long hair sooo much😭 If i do that now it looks weird because its shorter BUT hey, its actually growing out and finally getting to a happier length! I think it's pretty funny you will never see me with short hair; it'll grow out decently long before I see you again! I love you!

MOM (Joke of the Day):
An Englishman, a Frenchman, a Spaniard and a German are standing watching a street performer doing some excellent juggling. The juggler notices that the four gentleman have a very poor view, so he stands up on a large wooden box and asks, ”Can you all see me now?”

“Yes.”
“Oui.”
“Si.”
“Ja.”

Get it? Hahahahaha!!

MACEY: 😂😂 I thought it was hilarious but I had to spell it out for Sister Hansen😂 thanks for sending!
