Apparently I [MOM] forgot to post this message from back in January so here it is:
Happy Monday!! (Because of the fiasco of going to Hamburg to return the camera I bought that isn't very good, I have 30 minutes to write... unfortunately I'm just going to write one and try to make personal things to both of you [Meaning both parents]!)
I didn't realize the boys/brothers were going to stay so long, that's awesome! I just realized that they start school again today hahaha. I'm glad you got to spend some good time with them there :)
This week was crazy long and busy, it was suddenly Friday and I even asked what the heck did we even do this week?! It was a lot, and we found good small successes during the week that I've been really excited to tell you about!
We have some awesome investigators that we work with, but we wanted to focus a bit of time this week on following up with some contacts. Only Heavenly Father knows who will listen to His call and follow! Well, one particularly rainy day, we decided to go contact some of the people the elders had started to work with in Sankt Margarethen a.k.a. the boonies north of Glückstadt. We found out it would take 2 hours just to get there by bus, and then the same back! That's 4 hours of travel just to see if someone is home! We just felt it was really important, so we started traveling up to Itzehoe. It was pouring by now. I had the idea to call some members that lived there, and ask them for a ride! I figured itd probably be a long shot and they'd want to enjoy their evening but they were more than happy to help us! It was so sweet, I'm so grateful for the wonderful members here.
So they drove us, and I guess the guy misunderstood us when we said they could just drop us off and we wanted to tract a bit. He showed us where one of the contacts named Hazem lived, and came up with us! Apparently the elders have had a hard time getting in contact in the past, but we got right in and Hazem expected a lesson! Ohhhh boy, yeah we were not prepared for that. We just wanted to get in contact and set up a lesson. The thing was, he hardly speaks German! He and his family just came here from Syria about 2 years ago, so they are all learning. His sister usually translated for the missionaries because she young and just picked up the language, but she wasn't there! So we were sitting there, with this member and Hazem and his mom, just trying to make simple conversation! We tried following up with last lesson, yeah that didn't work. I was starting to get a bit nervous, I didn't want them to think we didn't have anything to teach them!
That's when I got the idea to call all of my friends that I knew that speak Arabic. None of them picked up for at least 10 minutes. Finally, one elder saved the day, and we were very lucky he said they weren't busy, and we had an awesome lesson! Well, he clarified and followed up with Hazem for 10ish minutes, then we just decided to read Alma 22 together (that was funny, we followed along in German while he read it aloud to us and his mom in Arabic, its a beautiful language!), and then called the elder back up to get his understanding of it, and give him a commitment and a return appt the next week. It somehow just went and it was a tiny miracle. I am so SO grateful for those language missionaries that make it possible for EVERYONE to hear the gospel! Of course it is wondrrful to speak English and German, I just love that we are reaching out to all of God's children, and that includes the melting pot of Germany :)
Thursday we had interviews with President! Man, I love that guy. He is so wise and really motivates me to do my job. I actually had a dream the night before about online proselyting. I've been a bit frustrated with it lately, because it seems like all we ever do is make nice pretty posts that just build our own profile up.. I've tried doing what everyone else has been doing and I haven't found 1 single new person out of it (just a couple half hearted discussions, but no interest). Well, I was just bugged that we would be given this and told billions of times it would turn "the trickle into the flood" if I'm not finding any success in it yet?! So yes, this was my vision; I wanted to think of 10 completely different ideas, ones I've never used before, to start a conversation on facebook messenger. Its great to put things on the internet whatever for people to find, but I thought of the idea of online tracting. Like online ringing doorbells, but probably get better results!
By the time I had my interview, I had thought of 10 new ideas, and I was ready to try them out. Oh man, I had so much to say but so little time. I was ready for my interview, and showed President my plan of action and how I was really going to put my effort into really find people online. Among that, I had a very, very good chat with President. He loved the ideas and wanted to hear how they would go!
We have only tried out a couple of ideas (such as joining groups in Elmshorn and running an online survey) and I got amazing good feedback! I ended up finding 4 people that were very interested in just a little under 2 hours! Granted only one of them is in my area, but we are building the whole kingdom of God (but I am still trying to focus on my area!) But the one in our area said he would come to church on Sunday, and we were just so thrilled! It was such a blessing to see how technology is now a medium in which we can bring people to Christ. Messenger especially, the contact and questions and sharing of resources is what's important, not necessary posting pretty things or friending everyone and their grandma!
By the end of the week, I was so exhausted. Saturday was brutally hard because we were trying to find a ride for Hazem who lives in the boonies and trying to connect with a couple of other contacts that showed interest in coming to church. We were thrilled at the prospect of having the 4 regular investigators (Joseph, Andre, Jacob and Lenard) come to church, along with new (Hazem, marcel, Filiz and Inga!) Well trying to figure out these crazy things happened like 10 minutes before an important correlation meeting for the wards 2018 missionary goals. I still had an hour of phone calls to do after the meeting to check up on our district because I "keep the flame" for our district. (That basically means I check up with them on goals and help them make new ones for the next week. I love it but sometimes it takes awhile when they aren't prepared) well our meeting went for over two hours and we got home after 9:30. I was just beyond tired and just about broke down haha. Oh Sister Ingalls, don't you know it always ends up being okay?! :)
It did end up being okay, but didn't turn out the way I thought it would. Nobody new came to church and Joseph couldn't come because he was sick! (He is really sunshine on a cloudy northern germany day!) So I was just sitting in sacrament meeting just feeling sad and tired. Sometimes it's hard when you feel like you gave more than you even thought you could for the week, and it just feels like nothing came of it. Well, the Lord blessed us for showing him He that we are willing to work hard. 2 former investigators showed up to church because they felt they should come, and they want to meet with the missionaries! Also, a woman wants her daughters family to learn! I am thrilled to work with them this week! I was at loss for words on Sunday just watching God's work go on as members greeted them, explained the class we teach, took care of them bringing them to class and such. It almost brings tears to my eyes now knowing that I get the chance to see these people decide to make changes in their lives and then follow through with it. It humbles me to see that God answered my prayer through someone coming to church that I had never even met before. He really loves and takes care of his children, even the sister missionaries that are just trying their best.
P.S. Could you possibly tell Pam Morgan thanks a million for doing that beaker backpulver und essig thing when I was a kid?! I have never forgotten that, and we had such a fun time doing that in church on Sunday! The kids really got into it and the leaders loved it! What a joy to grow up in the ward I did with the people I knew!
I love you! Sorry about the mishap with having to run to Hamburg. Luckily I can just return it after zone conference on the 23rd when we are waiting for our train!
I love you a million African lunches (Jan 19th cannot come soon enough! We are having it again!) I love love love you! I'm so proud of who you both individually are, and how wonderful of a team you make together!

To the Crew (June 10 - Group Email + Pictures)
Heyy! Short and sweet, this week went crazy fast and it was so good! After saying the saddest goodbye to our friends Sister Hansen and Sister Nieminen, we got right to work. They were working with Milica and Katheryn, and it felt so good to teach them again. I just love them.
We had Family Home Evening with the Patterson's and Sabrina at PRESIDENT FINGERLE'S HOUSE. I was like half super excited, half terrified haha. It went so well though. Sabrina gave President Fingerle a list of super deep questions she wanted to talk about, and she got right to asking questions when we got there. Here comes the amazing part. President Fingerle immediately turned to a Bible scripture for every question/comment. He answered so simply, all of us were taught through the Spirit. She even got a blessing from him before we left! As we walked to the bus, I could see she was a different person. She was practically giddy about what she learned, and she turned to me and exclaimed, "he answered ALL of my questions! Even the ones I didn't ask!" It was such a special night.
I know that God loves His children. All of them! He speaks to us through feelings, thoughts/ideas, signs, dreams, other people and in so many more ways. He wants us to be happy and be close to Him. I strive every day to be just a bit more like my perfect example, Jesus Christ, who leads us along this path.
Isn't life great? There is no need to fear, there is no need to be discouraged. There is always a way and another chance. Go get it this week!

Finishing up restoring the Patterson's table and chairs! #newskillz
Saying goodbye to the family...
Lol the day before the sisters left, I was accidentally Sister Hansen for a day. It was nice.
Brother Burns showed up at church on Sunday!
Awhhh the new trainee came in and her brother is in our ward! Small world
This Life is Joyous - June 10
I feel the same way that the summer is going so fast!! What else do you have planned this summer? You are going to have a baby with you, so you will definitely have your hands full with him too! I hope I get a chance to watch him before I go to school. It totally kills me not to hold babies oh I just miss them so much. Amelia (the little girl in most of my pictures ahhaa, the Patterson's daughter) just doesn't care and climbs all over me and is just so silly and cute. I ask Sister Patterson all the time if I can have her but she won't let me... sigh. I'll keep trying.
I agree the wallpaper in the bathroom has to go haha!
Your notes were awesome btw! I think all of your emails are good though. Sister N is doing well! They actually called us last night to give us a referral and it was soooo nice to hear their voices. We've really bonded over the last month and a half or so, it's by far been the best, hardworking happiest time of my mission so far! But how I've realized it, it just keeps getting better! We didn't get to talk a ton about her health, though. I'll email her today and ask. They seem happy though!
Haha sorry for the scary feet picture, but my tan is crazy! It's been so hot here, they are all saying that its abnormally hot. We just go outside and melt, its over 30 degrees Celcius which I have no idea how much that is in Fahrenheit, but it's HOT! I think we'll live on watermelon and popsicles this summer! and about that calves haha thank you. We work out hard every morning! I run every day. It's amazing how far I can push my physical limits, mostly with working and not getting a ton of sleep. Working out in the morning is my lifeline to staying awake throughout the day! Oh, P.S. I measured myself this week, and I have almost every transfer of my mission and I haven't changed. So whew, that was one of my biggest scares! I do miss lifting weights though!
Answering your questions:
I wear the floral dress all the time! That is definitely my lazy go to dress because its so easy and comfy, but I guess it doesn't make it in as many pictures! Love it though!
I did answer the slip one, but a white dress slip would be great! It's so hot though, it isn't super fun to wear a bunch of layers but I guess a slip is pretty cool. I'm completely good on a skirt slip though! Thank you!
I LOVEEEEE those dresses you sent me on email earlier this week!! They are all so cute, I'd love any of them. Also, the story of the wrap dress is crazy cool! You can do anything, can't you?! It looks so beautiful, and I bet you made it look even prettier. I can't wait to get it! The orange skirt is cute too! I can see a little bit of the girl's knee, so I hope it's long enough. Maybe get Allison Pattberg to try it on? We are about the same height I think. Love love love it all though and I'm so grateful, thank you!!! Please do not stress though. It's not like I'm nude or anything. I'll be just fine if you end up deciding against sending things. It's exciting though, and I love that you are getting to sew and use your creativity!
I'm excited about this doll Mary Fosvick made of me! It sounds adorable and I can't wait. How is their family doing? Update with the kids?
President Johnson emailed me and told me they are moving. I'm so sad. It's cool, I mean, yeah I can visit their family, but they were such a huge influence on our stake. I really loved having their family there and they will be missed. Will they moved before Emily comes home?
Thanks for the update on the Cox family, I will definitely be thinking of them and they are in my prayers. If I sent them a letter, do they still live at the same address for now?
Speaking of which, have you gotten a letter from me recently? :)
I'm proud to say that I practiced the piano for an hour today! I love getting to play and actually wish I could more often! Some days we have lunch at the church and I just eat quicker and play the rest of the time that we have. I feel the spirit so instantly when I play hymns, I absolutely love it. I think I could definitely practice enough to play most of the hymns when I'm home. I'm practicing a couple of arrangements too!
It's super cute, we are teaching Sabrina English as well, so she came to English class on Friday also. At the end of class, we decided to sing a hymn in English! I got to play and we made a deal that she'd keep learning English and I'd keep learning the piano, and we are going to sing a song when we have a lesson hehe. I love her so much, I just deeply want her to accept the gospel, she is so sincere in searching.
I still think that a dollar a song is reasonable pshhh.
Okay that is so smart to knot your dress on the inside. I'm going to practice that tonight. Thank you for the enlightening tip!
The $20 temple dress sounds great! I would loooooooooove love love love love to work at the temple. when I get home and before I leave for BYU. That'd be amazing.
Thanks for telling the story of Be Still My Soul! I don't think that was a coincidence at all that you heard it twice, once from me playing the piano for you and once from Christy Holt singing it. The lyrics to that song are beautiful, I invite you to just read them and ponder them! God is loving and kind and truly our Father. He is not some being, nor some scary big guy. Yes he's perfect and He does what's right for us, but He above all, wants us to have peace deep within our souls. We don't need to worry our fear. He is there. He sent His son to walk the path with us. He guides us now as He will in the future and He has in the past with prophets and holy scriptures and personal revelation. He really really truly loves us! So, yes Mom, this life is joyous! Heavenly Father wants us to have peace and He'll give it when we pray for it! I love Him!
P.S. I vote yes on the King size bed. Do you remember when all of us kids wanted to lay on the bed at night and we'd either cram or shove each other off? Haha those were such good memories, I love those.
Okay yes, the package with chocolate is for Rachel!
I love you a million beautiful piano pieces!! I hope I did a good job of answering your questions and making it seem like we are actually talking a bit more rather than just sending reports! If I missed
anything, I can email until 6 pm so just remind me! (I think that may 11am for you?)
Love, Sister Ingalls

The Best Time For My Life - (June 4 - Group Email)
Das Krankenhaus
1. We had a bit of a scare last week with Sister Nieminen's health. We had to call an ambulance and have her spend a few days in the hospital. It was quite the bonding time for us! Us sisters are like family. Funny things came out of it. Like the first was the day of the incident, we planned on having district meeting. The district came to the hospital, and we had district meeting in the waiting room complete with prayers, inspired talks and food!
Planting Seeds
2. One part of MLC is that we counsel together how we can help investigators in the entire mission progress. So as the Greifswald zone leaders went, they talked a man named Hans. Hans as in the man Sister Van Dyken and I found on exchanges!! He's golden and will be baptized in a few weeks! Then, as the Leipzig zone leaders went, they talked about the baptism of someone my trainer and I taught! My jaw just kept dropping, realizing that the small seeds we plant make a huge difference!
The House of God
3. By far the best part of the week: we went to the temple with Sabrina! Through miracle after miracle, members were able to drive us, one of her former missionaries was able to give her a tour, she met with the Temple President and of course, she absolutely LOVED it! The temple is evidence that Jesus Christ's church is restored on the earth, and that God gives His prophets the authority to bind families together for eternity!
The Transfer of Transfers
4. I can easily say these were some of the best weeks of my mission. We felt ourselves led by God to bless and serve others, and our spiritual strength was stretched and stretched (we relate a bit to Nephi, knowing we are young, nevertheless large in [spiritual] stature!) Opening a new area is hard work! Sadly, it was short lived, but there is more in store. Transfer calls came and Sister Hansen/Nieminen are leaving to white wash Groitzsch, so we are taking over the re-combined the area! Ohhh boy, we are so excited, big things are coming!
The Best Time for my Life
5. Thursday was the big day, marking one year as a missionary. Sister Hansen and I wore our outfits we came to the MTC in (wheeww they still fit, s/o to morning exercise.!) Deciding to serve a mission has been one of the greatest decisions so far. But it's not the fact that I'm in Germany or learning crazy languages or even the butter croissants that make me love it, it's this joy that comes from loving God, keeping His commandments and sharing that with others. I've laughed with, cried with, taught with and loved the most wonderful people! The world needs God's love and guidance, and my calling for 18 months (and surely my entire life) is to share that. I love Him. I know Him. I know Jesus Christ's church is restored on the Earth and leads us back to Him. I love it, I just love it!!

A Million Saturdays at the Temple! - Jun 4
Hey Mom!
Sorry for the super crazy week last week! That was a disaster haha. Don't worry, this week I have lots of materials and a decent amount of time! I sent you a couple things already including a voice recording and a recording of the song we performed in sacrament meeting! It's really fun to play!

Surprising that has gotten me into playing the piano a bit more! I can sight read (pretty slowly) a fair amount of hymns now! I remember some kind of deal with a dollar per song 😉
Yes, I do read through your emails and try to respond to everything. I guess different things about what you say pop out to me than what they do to you, I always try to respond to the biggest things! Emailing is stressful though haha I gotta write a novel in barely any time! I love it though and I love getting to feel close to you for a little bit. Thank you for all the effort you put into what you say and send me, I really appreciate it :)
I had a very distinct impression when President Uchtdorf came actually. He was telling the members to stay where they are and build up the church in Germany. He said we don't need more Mormons in Utah haha! But that struck me as well. I really want to live in an area where I can help build up the church. That may be Minnesota or that region or something. It just kinda hit me like, right! I'm not supposed to live in Utah. I made in through my teenage years not surrounded by Mormons, I know how it feels, I want to support those people! Maybe we could convince the boys to come do the same. Maybe we'll have an Ingalls branch or something hehehe
President Uchtdorf in Germany and there's me on the left! Such a great day!
That's cute you get to hang out with Sara more often! When does she go back to work? Are you excited to start watching the baby?I think we should do some online shopping together. I can't order stuff but you can send me screenshots? 😂 I just need some summer dresses, all my clothes are so hot!! I just can't find anything reasonably priced and modest! The shoes are impossible too. Everything is a sandal! It's taking up too much of our precious time so I think I'll just look like a hobo this summer..
I put the nametag in the package for you :) it should be getting there this week! Remember, bigger one for you, smaller one for Rachel, I sent her a message about it!
Yeah, I miss you and would rather send voice messages I'm not good at emailing and I feel like I'm writing for a blog or something haha
I had an interesting week too! At the hospital! Poor sister N (Sister H comp that came from Turkey with Sister B) she's been struggling with migraines. Except its definitely more than that. She suddenly got a migraine, collapsed and went in and out of consciousness. It was super scary. We got a member to take us to the hospital and then we ended up hanging out in the emergency room the majority of the day. We had district meeting there, it was pretty funny!
She spent 3 days in the hospital. Sister H couldn't stay there overnight so we'd go pick her up and have a sleepover in the living room with us 3! It was so fun!! We slept with the balcony door open, it was greeeat. It's so hot here.
Sister Baldock got a call Thursday morning saying shes invited to MLC! That was a good surprise! So she's going to be my new STL comp! That'll be so nice. It was hard to have 2 half companions this transfer, one for the area and one as stls. Very confusing who my comp was haha! It taught me lots of good communication!
MLC was so good and inspiring. It's arguably my favorite meeting besides interviews. I received so many ideas with how to help our sisters, the Spirit was inspiring me over and over again! We are going to have fun this transfer.
Berlin and Neubrandenburg Zones
Saturday was AMAZING. Having Sabrina at the temple was a remarkable experience. She felt the spirit strongly. The temple tour was super good, I kinda wish I got to do temple tours! I learned as well! The temple is evidence of the restoration, because God always revealed to His prophets during the dispensations how to build and run temples!Sunday was good too. I stayed home with Sister N because she'd been released from the hospital, but got sick from it or something and could not stop throwing up. That poor thing. We had church together (it was pretty funny and tooooootally spiritual. Kinda) and let her rest. I studied German again, that was nice. I love that language. Later in the afternoon, President and Sister Fingerle came over to visit! It was so sweet. They talked and laughed and it felt so good to be around them. They even brought us canned peaches and snickers 😂 I love them. He gave her a blessing and comforted all of us as well. They are super special to me, I love and sustain them whole heartedly!
Your calling sounds exciting! That bulletin board is going to look so good, keep me updated with how it looks! And achievers! Are there a lot of them? I can't believe Jillian is going to be 8 that's insane.
I love you a million Saturdays at the temple!
